Previous Years' Course Catalogues

There are four categories for course delivery:

In-Person if the course requires attendance at a specific location and time for some or all course activities. These courses will have section codes starting in 0 or 4.

Online – Asynchronous if the course has no requirement for attendance at a specific time or location for any activities or exams. These courses will have the section code starting with 61.

Online – Synchronous if online attendance is expected at a specific time for some or all course activities, and attendance at a specific location is not expected for any activities or exams. These courses will have the section code starting with 62.

Hybrid if the course requires attendance at a specific location and time, however 33-66% of the course is delivered online. If online attendance is expected at a specific time, it will be in place of the in person attendance. These courses will have the section code starting with 31.

Some courses may offer more than one delivery method please ensure that you have the correct section code when registering via ACORN. You will not be permitted to switch delivery method after the last date to add a course for the given semester.

  • The Parables of Jesus

    This course examines the interpretation of the parables in the gospels and other early Christian writers. It outlines major trends in the modern analyses of the parables, with special attention to social and economic concerns, in order to assess how they might work as a distinctive form of communication. We will also consider how attention to communicative dynamics and first century contexts can help us to imagine the relevance of parables to our own time.

    Decolonial Thinking and Theology

    EMT3625HS

    Building upon what is broadly understood as liberation discourses and theologies, this course explores the salient features of emerging decolonial thinking and discourses. We will study the various methodological shifts as articulated by decolonial thinkers and examine how these complex theoretical currents signal a reconfiguration of inherited forms of knowledge, understanding of the world, and the theological task. The focus of this course is to gain insight in the main ideas, specific methodologies, and key authors involved in the development and proliferation of these diverse theoretical currents, and their relevance for the task of theology and ministry.
