Canada Graduate Research Scholarships & OGS Scholarships
Graduate Students are encouraged to apply for the following awards. Eligibility requirements for each award may vary. It is the responsibility of the student to verify their eligibility for each award.
The School of Graduate Studies' Graduate Centre for Academic Communication (GCAC) offers courses and workshops each year on writing scholarship proposals. More information, including registration information (conjoint students only), may be found at the GCAC website.

Canada Graduate Research Scholarships
Canada Graduate Research Scholarship - Doctoral Program (CGRS-D)
The SSHRC Doctoral Fellowship has been discontinued. The new award is called the Canada Graduate Research Scholarship - Doctoral Program. This award is available to both international and domestic students. Students should refer to this website for more information.
The deadline to apply is September 15, 2025.
IMPORTANT: New applicants who wish to apply for a CGRS-D may need to apply directly through CGRS-D, and not through TST. Visit this website more information. Deadlines for direct CGRS-D applications can be later than those listed above.
Canada Graduate Research Scholarship - Master's Program (CGRS-M)
The Canada Graduate Scholarship - Master's is now the Canada Graduate Research Scholarship - Master's Program. This award is only available to domestic students. Students should refer to this website for more information.
The deadline to apply is December 1, 2025, by 8:00 pm ET.
Applicants who are not currently enrolled in their intended graduate program at the University of Toronto must submit an application for admission to the graduate department/unit that they select on their CGRS-M application by the unit’s admissions deadline, or by March 15, 2026, whichever comes first.
Ontario Graduate Scholarships (OGS)
Graduate students in conjoint PhD, ThM and MA programs may be eligible for Ontario Graduate Scholarships (OGS). International students on a student visa may also be eligible to apply. The OGS application and eligibility information is available each year via the University of Toronto School of Graduate Studies website.
OGS Application Deadlines
- International students with a student visa: Online applications must be completed by March 7, 2025; 11:59 pm ET.
- Domestic students (citizens or permanent residents): Online applications must be completed by March 7, 2025; 11:59 pm ET.
