Yang, Mi-Weon

Mi-Weon has been teaching at Knox College in the Master of Pastoral Studies program since 2020, offering courses on spiritual care and practical theology. Her teaching focus has been on using experiential pedagogies for intercultural engagement in spiritual care and psychospiritual therapy.

She completed her PhD in theology at the University of St. Michael’s College in 2017. Mi-Weon Yang is a Registered Psychotherapist (CRPO), Provisional Supervisor-Educator (CASC), and a Clinical Fellow and Approved Supervisor (AAMFT). Mi-Weon brings her robust experience as a psychotherapist to her teaching in spiritual care and psychospiritual therapy. Her particular expertise is in employing the intercultural awareness in integrating theology and psychology in theory and practice.

As she teaches out of her pastoral roots and therapeutic expertise, she sees the creation of synergies between the two fields that only enhances each other. This leads the way for students to come closer to achieving their vocational goals in a spiritual care and psychospiritual therapy in diverse institutional and communal sectors.

Her research interest is in spiritual care and practice in an intercultural context. Mi-Weon is currently working on writing a chapter of a forthcoming book, Pastoral Care and Diaspora: Concept, Theory, Practice (Tentative/Working Title) with the topic of Salim: A Life-giving approach to Pastoral care and counselling for Korean diaspora in North America.

Mi-Weon is an ordained minister in Korean Presbyterian Church Abroad. As a person of faith, Mi-Weon loves engaging with others to build community at Knox and TST.
