Wycliffe College's Jacob Jocz annual event is part of a Jewish Christian and Messianic Studies academic initiative. It is built on the legacy of one of Wycliffe’s most celebrated faculty members, Rev. Dr Jacob Jocz (1906-1983). This annual lectureship engages facets of Jewish Christianity and Messianic Judaism.

Topic: Jesus and the Jewish Law: The purification mission of Jesus

Featured Speaker: Matthew Thiessen is an associate professor of religious studies at McMaster University. He is the author of several books on Judaism and Christianity in Antiquity, including A Jewish Paul and Jesus and the Forces of Death.

Respondent: Michael Gabizon (PhD, McMaster University, 2022) researches the formation of Jewish identity in Antiquity, focusing on intermarriage and social boundaries in the Hebrew Bible and Second Temple literature. He has published on topics related to messianism, the “parting of the ways,” and Paul within Judaism. Michael has taught at The King’s University and Moody Bible Institute. He is based in Montreal, Quebec.
