This talk will be a series of reflections on three outstanding European educators - all of whom were members of religious congregations, and all of whom had a significant impact on the educational environment in Toronto and the larger landscape of Canadian education.
All are welcome. A reception will follow.
Speaker: Elizabeth (Liz) Smyth is Professor Emeritus, University of Toronto. Her research focuses on the history of women religious in Canada and the rise of the professions in academic life. She is a Senior Fellow of Massey College, the University of St Michael's College and serves as Chair of the Board of the Toronto School of Theology. She is author of many book, chapters and articles. Dr. Smyth has been awarded the George Edward Clerk Award for outstanding contribution to Canadian Catholic religious history from the Canadian Catholic Historical Association; the Lifetime Achievement Award from the International History of Women Religious Network and the Vivek Goel Award for Faculty Citizenship and Leadership from the University of Toronto.
