This two-day workshop and lecture series examines how colonialism and racism have shaped Buddhist Studies, especially through historical-critical and linguistic-anthropological methods that emerged during European imperial expansion in Asia. Speakers will interrogate these inherited frameworks, highlight alternative epistemologies, and explore decolonial approaches to research, teaching and practice.
January 8, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm: Victoria College Chapel (91 Charles Street West - 2nd floor; elevator will be under repair). Students are encouraged to attend and participate.
January 9, 9:30 am - 12:00 pm: Workshop, Emmanuel College Chapel (Emmanuel students only). Led by Professor Jennifer Bright, Professor Eleanor Pontoriero, and Professor Henry Shiu.
