Wycliffe College - Professor of Old Testament

Wycliffe College is a graduate school of Theology in the evangelical and Anglican tradition, working within the Toronto School of Theology and granting degrees conjointly with the University of Toronto. Wycliffe has a diverse and global student body, and it is situated in one of the world’s most multi-cultural cities. Therefore we particularly welcome applications from individuals who mirror the diversity of our community.

The successful candidate should ideally be a scholar with a relevant PhD or ThD, and a strong track record of graduate teaching and publication. They should exhibit a deep exegetical engagement with the Old Testament texts, be familiar with a range of interpretative approaches to the Old Testament, ancient and modern, and bring their scholarship into conversation with theology. They will have staked out an area of specialized research and writing that is recognized in their field and that comports with the wider traditions of Nicene Christianity as centred on the person of Jesus Christ.

The successful candidate will be able to teach basic and advanced degree courses across the Old Testament curriculum for students training for ministry in the church and the academy. These might include courses on individual books or groupings of Old Testament books, their specialized research areas, biblical Hebrew at an advanced level, the history of interpretation, Old Testament theology, and Old Testament ethics.

They will provide evidence of pedagogical excellence in teaching across a range of technologies: in-person, hybrid, and online. They will be capable of supervising theses at the doctoral level and pursuing publishable research. Responsibilities include teaching five courses per year and making productive use of Wycliffe’s generous sabbatical policies. They will be expected to participate in the wider community life of the College and Chapel, mentor and advise students, preach where asked, and enjoy a collegial rapport with other faculty at Wycliffe, the TST, and the University of Toronto.
