Rooted in God: Personal Prayer as the Soil of Ministry

This course focuses on personal contemplative prayer as essential for our relationship with God and the soil out of which healthy and effective ministry grows. The course covers Biblical teaching on prayer; the contemplative tradition arising from the early desert fathers and mothers; spirituality, theology and psychology of prayer; and various Christian traditions of prayer including lectio divina, Ignatian prayer, other forms of scripture prayer, centering prayer, Christian meditation, and the awareness examen.The course concludes with suggestions for planting and growing a prayer-based parish ministry. Lectures, small group and plenary sharing, and practicum. Two reflection papers and a final paper designing a course to be taught in a ministry seeting. Also self-evaluation based on a learning covenant which includes a daily prayer requirement. This course will be held at St. John's Convent, 223 Cummer Ave., North York.

New Testament Hermeneutics

Survey of New Testament world, authors, theologies. Introduction to the historical-critical and other methods of exegesis. Focus on the relation of hermeneutic to Christian Theological traditions; determining the senses of Scripture, the intent of the author, the structures in the texts; stance of the reader. Spiritual Direction for Groups

A practicum in spiritual direction for small groups of people. We will explore spiritual sharing (or intimacy) in small groups of people, what it means, who it may be for, and how to build that spiritual intimacy and vulnerability by creating a small group which for the duration of the course will be spiritual directors for and with each other.

Supervision in Spiritual Direction Ministry: Theory and Practice

This course is designed to provide an experience for spiritual directors with the goal of strengthening their competencies in supervision. This course will also assist spiritual directors discerning their call to the ministry of supervision. The focus of the course is to enable the supervisor to facilitate the ministry of spiritual directors so that directees recognize and integrate God's presence and direction in every aspect of their lives. The focus of the supervision process is on the spiritual director. This course is organized around a contemplative supervision process for peer groups and individual supervision of spiritual directors. 6-page paper. **Pre-requisite: Diploma in Spiritual Direction students at Regis College; persons with an ongoing ministry of spiritual direction with an M.Div, MAMS, or equivalent spiritual direction formation program; ongoing engagement in spiritual direction; permission of the course instructor. Co-requisite: Diploma in Spiritual Direction students at Regis College, permission of course instructor.BD students;Pass/Fail. For advanced degree students final integration paper; graded; required attendance.
