Cross-Cultural and Multi-Cultural Ministry

There is great interest in the contemporary Church in the challenge to minister across cultural lines, especially in more pluralistic settings. This course endeavors to apply insight from key moments in the history of Christian mission for the sake of such a contemporary pastoral approach. The course will accomplish this by surveying theories of culture, considering chapters in mission history, and by identifying strategies for current and future cross-cultural ministries. The course will include lectures, case-studies, presentations,and field trips. Students will be evaluated based on participation, book reports, and a term paper.

Study of Foundational pastoral, methodological, theological dynamics for authentic Catholic education. Focus on education's role to inform, form and transform. Conversion in the context of a global, technological in dialogue with Vatican II and significant post-Conciliar documents. Lectures, seminar, three (3) short papers or one synthesis paper.

Ministry With Dying And Grieving Persons

This course offers students an opportunity to combine classroom learning with field-based inquiry on a range of approaches to grief ministry. Students will bring to class ministry narratives, verbatim reports, or interview results for dialogue with the readings and with classmates. Classes will combine a variety of learning methodologies including personal reflection, seminar discussions, audio-visual resources and some lectures. Course requirements: attendance, participation, field research, written work. Prerequisite: basic course in Pastoral and Theology, or permission of the instructor.
