Advanced Degree Student Association

The Toronto School of Theology Advanced Degree Students’ Association exists for the benefit of all Advanced Degree students at the TST. Its membership comprises all AD students at the member colleges of the TST. The ADSA Board, consisting of student representatives, serves as a forum for expressing corporate student concerns with the TST administration, stimulating academic and professional development among all AD students, and encouraging cooperation and community between students and faculty.

The ADSA maintains a wonderful website that is an invaluable resource. The website has a calendar of upcoming events that are of interest to AD students.

A significant aspect of the work of the ADSA Board is advocacy of student concerns. In the past this has included addressing language requirements, external examiners, mentoring, teaching opportunities, and the supervisory needs of new doctoral students.

Every Advanced Degree student of the Toronto School of Theology, whether full time or part time, contributes to the resources that fund the events and functions of the ADSA. The ADSA Board hosts seminars to encourage academic professional development, which provide an opportunity to explore aspects of life in academia. Past topics have included getting published, applying for teaching positions, syllabus design, using biblical software, applying for government grants, and using computer research software.

Works and Wine, a monthly student-organized interdisciplinary seminar, offers students within the community the opportunity to pre-sent their research interests and works-in-progress over a glass of wine and cheese.

The ADSA Board supports student groups that add to the diversity of theological expression at the TST such as the Biblical Department Seminars and the Patristic Seminars.

The ADSA Board awards travel bursaries for students giving presentations at conferences in religion and theology.

There are plenty of opportunities for every Advanced Degree student to be involved in the work of the Advanced Degree Students’ Association Board, whether serving on the Board itself or by attending a seminar, party, or event. Through the work of the ADSA Board, all TST AD students may be encouraged to make the culture of student life at the TST the very best.
