Waterloo Lutheran Seminary has announced two summer travel seminars for undergraduate and graduate credit.

"Canadian Public Theology and Political Engagement,” a one-week intensive in May, will be offered in Ottawa, but much of the work can be completed online.

“Reformation, Resistance, and Renewal” will take place in Germany in August. It will look at Luther, Bonhoeffer, and the experience of churches in the former Communist East Germany.

TST has appointed Professor Jaroslav Skira the Director of the Graduate Centre for Theological Studies (GCTS) for an initial five-year term.

Professor Skira teaches historical theology at Regis College, and has authored numerous books and articles in the area. His interests include the Eastern Orthodox tradition, Eastern Rite Roman Catholicism, iconography, and ecumenism.

The GCTS was established in 2013 to administer TST’s graduate advanced degree programs.

The Society of Biblical Literature has recently published a Jobs Report for Theological, Religious, and Biblical Studies based on 2011—2012 data. You can download it as a PDF file here.

A key finding is that the number of academic positions increased markedly from 2010 to 2011, and plateaued in 2012.

A typical new position is a full-time tenure-track appointment. However, the report indicates that non-tenure-track positions are probably under-reported.
