Basic degree programs

Master of Theological Studies (MTS)

An academic program that provides students a general introduction to theological scholarship, for their own enrichment or to establish a theological context within which to exercise their own ministry or apostolate within the world.

The minimum requirement for the MTS, offered by all TST colleges, is twenty (20) courses or equivalent units, over a minimum of two years.

The program may comprise a measure of specialization and must include a summative exercise.

 

Program Type: 

Master of Sacred Music (MSMus)

Offered by Emmanuel College, the Master of Sacred Music's (MSMus) has as its chief purpose the equipping of persons for competent leadership in a specialized area of ministry—sacred music.

The minimum requirement for this degree is twenty (20) courses or equivalent units, over a minimum of two years.

 

Program Type: 

Master of Pastoral Studies (MPS)

Offered by Emmanuel College, the Master of Pastoral Studies (MPS) has as its chief purpose the equipping of persons for competent leadership in a specialized area of ministry—pastoral care ministries.

The minimum requirement for this degree is twenty (20) courses or equivalent units, over a minimum of two years.

 

Program Type: 

Master of Religious Education (MRE)

The primary purpose of the MRE is to equip persons for competent leadership in various forms of educational ministry in congregations and other religious institutions.

Twenty (20) courses over a minimum of two years can be completed on a part-time basis.

The MRE is offered by Knox College, St. Augustine’s Seminary and the University of St. Michael’s College Faculty of Theology.

 

Program Type: 

Master of Divinity (MDiv)

This program, offered by all Toronto School of Theology member colleges, prepares individuals for ordained ministry and for responsibilities of general pastoral and religious leadership in congregations and other settings.

Program Type: 

Master of Arts in Ministry and Spirituality (MAMS)

Offered by Regis College, the Master of Arts in Ministry and Spirituality (MAMS) has as its chief purpose the equipping of persons for competent leadership in a specialized area of ministry—pastoral ministry and spiritual direction.

The minimum requirement for this degree is twenty (20) courses or equivalent units, over a minimum of two years.
